The First Book On Group Psychotherapy
J.L. Moreno’s first book on group psychotherapy, is sadly also the last in the series of his newly re-published titles, a project undertaken by the North-West Psychodrama Association in 2010. With the support and encouragement of Zerka T.Moreno, over the past twelve years we have published just as many of Moreno’s seminal works. These span from his early writings about impromptu and spontaneous theatre, through his philosophical and sociometric ideas, his more clinically focused psychodrama psychotherapy concepts jointly formalized with Zerka, to some more biographical titles.

Possibilities and limitations of Psychodrama Online
Manfred Jannicke, Gerda Mävers, Johanna Olberding
In the midst of and out of the pandemic situation in 2020, the psychodramatic world experienced an enormous expansion: all over the world, psychodramatists began to experiment with their method in the virtual space of the internet – with the help of video platforms that enable interpersonal interaction in real time despite lock downs, isolation and distance.
This initiated discussions about the limits and possibilities of psychodramatic online work, ranging from euphoric reactions to the expansion of the spectrum of possibilities to the question of what can still be called psychodrama at all.
In this anthology, practical experiences, methods, insights and tensions regarding online psychodrama are presented and discussed.

This book calls to explore our collective and personal convictions about success and good life. Drawing on science and ancient Greek philosophers the author details how we can cultivate our skills for enjoying life without harming ourselves or others, and can live an autonomous, creative and connected life. Complementary to our intellectual understanding, the experiential method of role play and theatre can powerfully facilitate the exploration of the inner drivers and hindrances of a thriving life.

Using vivid examples, they describe the appropriate composition of a group of children, the structure of a group therapy session, the group process, disorder-oriented and group process-oriented interventions and the demands placed on the leaders of these groups.

Myths, fairy tales, legends, dreams. Bridge beyond the conflicts
Edited by Wilma Scategni and Stefano Maria Cavalitto
The cadenced, repetitive and periodic rhythm that marks the holding of individual analysis and the group sessions evokes an image of the cyclical nature of ritual experience. Rituals often serve to relate the sacred mythical world of the Gods, of the origins, to the world of everyday experience. Rituals recreate short time – the connection between earth and heaven and between the Gods and the people, in other words the feeling of the deep meaning of our own existence. The book explores this subject, grounding on the experience of many Group Psychotherapists and Analysts practicing in different nations, with different languages, cultural backgrounds and methods. You will find articles in English, in Italian and in Spanish.

Using insightful case studies from a variety of client groups, this book shows how Systemic Constellation Work can expand the possibilities of psychodrama techniques, and can be successfully integrated with psychodramatic enactment, guided imagery, ritual, concretization and other methods of healing and personal growth.

Sociometry, Experimental Method and the Science of Society
J.L. Moreno
His writing, like the method he pioneered, is rich and complex. Students, practitioners and participants have encountered Moreno’s work in action; however, fewer people may have had the opportunity to read and think about the ‘words of the father’ due to the limited availability of key texts. A desire to ensure Moreno’s work is available inspired members of the North West Psychodrama Association to work together to re-publish the books in this series. By doing so J. L. Moreno’s words will continue to reverberate across time and space: inspiring new generations of practitioners to be as creative and spontaneous as is possible whilst managing the complexity of modern day practice. Who Shall Survive?
J.L. Moreno
It is impossible to do justice to this interesting and challenging piece of work within the limits of a review. To get its full meaning, to see the tremendous importance, one needs not only to read it carefully and give it thoughtful study, but to actually apply some of his tests, as the reviewer did, and to watch their working out within a group. Then it becomes apparent that here really is a method of observation of group reactions, or rather the reactions of individuals within the group, which not only throws light upon the personalities composing the group, but can aid in the arranging of people in communities.

Sociodrama and Collective Trauma
Sambadrama
Zoltán Figusch (Ed.)

The author offers international readers an extensive overview of the work being done using this psychotherapeutic method, which enables participants to examine relationships, emotions, fears and conflicts through spontaneous role-play and improvisations with other ‘actors’ and with the practitioner. Published by Jessica Kingsley http://www.jkp.com/
From One-to One Psychodrama to Large Group Socio-Psychodrama
Zoltán Figusch (Ed.)
This is the second volume of Brazilian psychodrama writings translated and edited into English by Zoli Figusch. The book focuses on two areas of creative developments introduced by Brazilian psychodramatists. Through theoretical reflection and clinical examples of practice the first part presents the theory and practice of one-to-one psychodrama, that is, psychodrama psychotherapy with an individual client and without auxiliary egos. Part two focuses on the socio-psychodramatic work with large groups and public events gathering great numbers of participants.
Theory and Practice of Action and Drama Techniques
The author develops a personality model and shows how it can be applied in practice through psychodrama, video feedback and creative play therapy. In the first section of the book she defines her approach in philosophical and clinical terms: in the second, more practically oriented, section she explains how psychodramatic principles can be applied when working therapeutically with groups and individuals. Published by Jessica Kingsley
Playing the Other. Dramatizing Personal Narratives in Playback Theatre
Nick Rowe
This book is an exploration and critique of playback theatre, a form of improvised theatre in which a company of performers spontaneously enact autobiographical stories told to them by members of the audience. The author critically explores the nature, implications and ethics of the performers’ response to the teller’s experience, how notions of the public and personal are constructed, and the risks involved in improvising a response to a member of the audience’s story. Published by Jessica Kingsley
The Dimensions of Dreams. The Nature, Function, and Interpretation of Dreams
Ole Vedfelt
The author reviews in depth the large body of research about dreams that has found its way into the literature, from the work of Freud and Jung to that of many other important investigators, including Alfred Adler, Erich Fromm, Montague Ullman, Calvin Hall and Medard Boss, and discusses dream work in gestalt therapy and psychodrama, how dreams are affected by organic diseases and physical symptoms, the relationship between dreams and psychosis, para psychological phenomena. Published by Jessica Kingsley.
The Who You Dream Yourself
Val Richards
The author examines the relationship between psychotherapy and the theatre, as underpinned by Winnicott’s writings, Jung’s ideas on self, the writings of Lacan and the prose, drama, and poetry of Yeats – an unusual blend between diverse and often opposing schools of thought. Part one focuses on the workings of language, space, and meaning-making in the settings of infancy, therapy, and theatre. Part two looks at the “struggle between masks,” which are used as a metaphor for self and the representation of self. Part Three looks at signs and times by showing that space and linear time are one and indivisible: disturbance in one means disturbance in the other. Published by Karnac Books.

Part One explores the integration of psychodrama and sociometry with other therapy methods including structural family therapy, art therapy, and group therapy. Applications of psychodrama in education, training and consultation. Published by Springer.
The Theatre of Truth. Psychodrama, Spontaneity and Improvisation
Eberhard Scheiffele
It starts with a philosophical analysis of the concepts of acting, improvisation and spontaneity and then consolidates the elements of Moreno’s theory of the nature and function of theatre, which are dispersed throughout his writings and have never been thoroughly collected in one place. This allows a critical comparison with two dramatic theorists who anticipated some of Moreno’s ideas: Aristotle from whom he adapted the concept of catharsis and Goethe whom he saw as a forerunner of both therapy through drama and spontaneous production. Analyzing the dramatic and artistic way Moreno wrote and acted, I conclude that he was at heart a theatre person.

Combining her practical experience and recent doctoral research she reflects on how and why these therapies actually work in the healing process, how in ‘the space between’ children and their therapists, the child and adult can each use their creative skills to aid developmental processes, reverse negative brain patterns and affect positive behavioural changes to heal the damage caused by severe abuse in childhood. The author presents a practical model called the Regenerative Approach to use when assessing and working therapeutically with traumatised children. Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
The Healing Drama
Anne Bannister
Working with children who have been physically or sexually abused presents tremendous challenges. Various therapeutic techniques can be used, and one of them is through the medium of drama in the hands of psychodramatists and dramatherapists. There is comparatively little material available on the use of this technique specifically with abused children. This book sets out the main theoretical and practical approaches. Beginning with the notion of Play and its importance for children, Anne Bannister discusses how children use play as a method of investigation and rehearsing for reality. Free Association Books

Contributions from several different countries emphasise the wide potential of action methods for use with young people. Provides a comprehensive and wide-ranging resource for those interested in exploring and understanding why action methods are particularly useful when working with young people. Clinical Applications of Drama Therapy in Child and Adolescent Treatment
Anna Marie Weber, Craig Haen (Eds.)

Weber and Haen’s book fills this need, providing a core text for graduate students and established professionals alike. Published by Routledge

The Theatre of Spontaneity
J. L. Moreno
Moreno wrote books, chapters and articles about psychodrama. His writing, like the method he pioneered, is rich and complex. Many students, practitioners and participants around the world have encountered Moreno’s work in action; however, fewer people may have had the opportunity to read and think about the ‘words of the father’ due to the limited availability of key texts. A desire to ensure Moreno’s work is available to the widest possible audience inspired members of the North West Psychodrama Association to work together to re-publish the books in this series. Psychodrama: Modern Art as Group Therapy
Donald B. Kuspit
The author is one of America’s most esteemed art critics. He is Distinguished Professor of Art History and Philosophy at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. This collection contains Donald Kuspit’s writing at its illuminating best as it reveals the psychological and spiritual motivation that conceivably compelled the artists represented to create some of their most interesting work. His subjects range from the artist’s relentless manoeuvring for status to the calculated use of perversion and empowering sexuality to engage the art-going public. Ziggurat Books International.

Words of the Father
Jacob Levy Moreno
Written in 1920 and translated in 1941, “Das Testament des Vaters” is one of the basic books in Moreno’s theory and philosophy. To this day this is one of the most fascinating that Moreno wrote. Fascinating because of the philosophy that he preached, a philosophy of co-responsibility and co-creativity. Also fascinating because of the way it was written, being like a child, needing the presence of a mother and a midwife. If we read this book as an expression of the philosophy of the cosmos, we find in it the concepts of the Moreno’s future theories: surplus reality, spontaneity, co-creation, creation as an ongoing process, “encounter” of I and You as the basis for significant meetings. Psychodrama: Inspiration and Technique
Paul Holmes and Marcia Karp (Eds.)
The 14 psycho-dramatists who have contributed to this book were asked to write about that which inspires them in their work and about the techniques and psychological theories they use for creative clinical practice. They write about their attempts to help a variety of client groups including adolescents, autistic children, offenders, anorexics, the sexually abused, alcoholics and those dying of cancer. This book describes how the boundaries of psychotherapy can be creatively stretched by the inspired use of technique (within the method of psychodrama) and by the use of other theories, including ideas from psychoanalysis. The Autobiography of J.L. Moreno M.D.
J.L. Moreno
This is maybe one of the less well known Moreno texts, as previously it has only been published in small numbers and less widely circulated than the other key Moreno books. This abridged version of the autobiography was first edited together by Moreno’s son, Jonathan, and published in the ASGPP Journal of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy in 1989. As all autobiographies, this book also offers interesting insight into the life of the father of psychodrama, covering his early years in Romania and Vienna, as well as his later life in the USA. An interesting a helpful additional reading to all interested in psychodrama and the philosophical ideas underpinning it. Lulu Publishing.
To Dream Again
Zerka T. Moreno
This book portrays Zerka’s development and experiences that moulded her, and made her receptive to Moreno’s ideas at a time when this was not generally the case. Zerka’s life before she met Moreno occupies the first part of this book. The second part relates the highlights of this unusual partnership and her life after his death. The final portion of this book addresses Zerka’s subsequent life and many of her worldwide journeys. Moreno was once heard to declare, “I had the ideas, Zerka was the tool.” The focal point of this Memoir is not to describe who Zerka was to J.L., but to share it with the world. “This is a story about a woman who is a legendary figure, not only in psychodrama, but in the overall field of psychotherapy.

Preludes to my Autobiography
J.L. Moreno
This text was first published as a prelude to the 1953 complete edition of Who Shall Survive?, under the title ‘Preludes of the sociometric movement’. Two years later, in 1955 it was published as a stand-alone text in No.34 of the Sociometry Monographs, this time with the title ‘Preludes to my autobiography: Introduction to Who Shall Survive?’. Then in 1989 it was re-printed by Beacon House simply as ‘Preludes to my autobiography’. We hope it will be a helpful addition to both Moreno’s recently re-published autobiography, as well as his other publications on sociometry. Lulu Printings
