Presentation of the Host City: TORINO, Piemonte, Italia

Torino is an elegant city full of life, located at the foot of the Alps in north-western Italia. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy and still retains a regal charm, with grand boulevards, beautiful squares and historic buildings. It is famous for the Mole Antonelliana symbol of the city; and for being the city of cinema and chocolate. It combines tradition and innovation, with a strong cultural and artistic presence, thanks to important museums such as the Egyptian Museum, Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madama. The Cathedral houses the Shroud of Torino. The City is also a university and technology centre, with a lively nightlife and excellent cuisine. Welcoming and dynamic, it is an ideal city for those seeking inspiration, culture and beauty.

Why Torino?

Torino is a city open to diversity, dialogue and creativity. Its cultural history, its commitment to education and the presence of active and well-known Psychodrama Institutes make it the right place to host an international event of encounter, exchange and growth. Moreover, the beauty of its spaces and the hospitality of the people create an atmosphere of true connection, in line with FEPTO’s values.

Four Curiosities about Torino and Piemonte

  1. A city of mystery and symbols

Torino is considered one of the most ‘magical’ cities in the world. It is part of both the white magic triangle (with Lyon and Praha) and the black magic triangle (with London and San Francisco). The city is full of esoteric symbols, legends and mysterious places that still fascinate today.

  1. Rich and varied nature

Piemonte has very diverse natural landscapes: mountains, hills, lakes and plains. There are many natural parks, ideal for walking, relaxing and discovering nature. The Alpi Piemontesi also offer many outdoor activities in all seasons.

  1. Torino and the Psychodrama

The city has a special connection with psychodrama. Over the decades, many pioneers and professionals have contributed to its development and dissemination here.

Among its remarkable moments, Zerka Toeman Moreno hosted “La Moreno (che tutti sanno chi è) per Pirandello e ciascuno a suo modo” at the Teatro Carignano in 1986-a memorable event (directed by the psychodramatist Ottavio Rosati) that brought the Morenian spirit to one of Italy’s most prestigious stages.

More recently, in 2018, the Torino Film Festival presented “Psychodrame”, a precious film directed by Roberto Rossellini in Paris in 1956, portraying Moreno leading a psychodrama session with a group of television actors, assisted by Anne Ancelin Schützenberger. The film was rediscovered by the Moreno Museum Association during the inventory of the Anne Ancelin Schützenberger archive which is housed in the courtyard of the Torino headquarters of the FEPTO Institute “Studio di Psicodramma” (founded by Giovanni Boria in Milano), directed by Marco Greco.

The City has also been home to numerous psychodrama training centres and influential practitioners, such as Maurizio Gasseau, with the FEPTO “Associazione Mediterranea di Psicodramma”, Wilma Scategni, Angela Sordano, Leandra Perrotta, Wanda Druetta, Giulio Gasca, who have played key roles in expanding and deepening psychodramatic practice in Italy and abroad.

  1. Cinema and FIAT (Stellantis)

Torino is a cutting-edge center for innovation and technology, recognized as the cradle of the Italian automotive industry with the founding of F.I.A.T. in 1899 and the historic Mirafiori plant, now a Stellantis production hub. Concurrently, the city boasts a rich cinematic history, having been the site of the first film screening in Italy and the birthplace of the silent colossal film “Cabiria” in 1914, earning it the nickname “Hollywood at the foot of the Mole.” The Mole Antonelliana, a symbol of Torino, now houses the prestigious Museo Nazionale del Cinema.
